How do dinosaurs fit into the Bible?

This was the first question we received from the Youth Alpha Class 2011. Our desire is that we would post the question and then interact with the responses.

Question #1 How do dinosaurs fit into the Bible?

The Bible has a good deal to say about what the early Earth was like. This includes dinosaurs. Presumably, dinosaurs were created on day six, with all of the other land animals and humans. This would have placed humans and dinosaurs living during the same time period as each another. But where did they go?
The Bible presents at least two major events that shaped the Earth. The first is creation. The second is the Great Flood of Noah’s day that covered the whole Earth with water. These two events are probably what 2nd Peter 3:5-6 is talking about. Look it up. The world was a much different place before the Flood. People lived to be nearly a thousand years old. Also, it probably didn’t rain, but rather had some other form of hydration described as a “mist” or “flow” (see Genesis 2:6). For an even better understanding, read all of Genesis 1-9 to see how significantly different the world was pre-Flood. As for the dinosaurs, any that were not on the Ark would certainly have been killed, and many made into fossils. The Flood would have encased these dinosaurs in mud at high incredibly pressures, which would be optimum for the creation of the fossils we see today. Those dinosaurs that did survive the Flood by going on the Ark, most likely died off due to the drastically different climate. However, dinosaurs probably didn’t go extinct right away after the Flood. Job 40:15-24 describes a creature that seems strikingly similar to a dinosaur. Look it up before you continue reading. Some have said that this could be a Hippopotamus or Elephant, but have you ever seen a Hippopotamus or Elephant with a tail like a Cedar tree? Me neither. Job 41 goes on to describe other animals that sound like nothing that I have ever seen. Many believe that these are dinosaurs. If these ancient writings in the book of Job really are talking about dinosaurs, which it sounds like they are, then that would force the conclusion that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time, not millions of years apart like evolution states.
Let me make a side note here. Imagine how ridiculous these descriptions of monsters must have sounded to someone reading the Bible before the 1800’s, which is when we made major discoveries about dinosaurs. Yet no one changed these passages of scripture because they did not make sense. Now, in our present time, we see that these descriptions are not that ridiculous at all. It’s just one more example when Bible is proven right.
A good article that I used to help answer this question can be found at answersingenesis.com. The article is by Ken Ham and it is called “Dinosaurs and the Bible.”
Also, before you stop reading this, go back and read all of the scripture passages included above. They will help you understand this much better.
